Well a colleague enlightened me today on a concept that was new to me.
We were talking about social networking (as we are both on LinkedIn). We were both discussing how a number of people seem to collect contacts. Whilst it isn't a criticism, because everybody should use these sites/tools as suits them.
My colleague all of a sudden said have you heard of "monkey sphere"?
Obviously the fact that I mentioned at the start of this post that it was new to me, my immediate response was NO!
After last week he mentioned trunk monkey on YouTube, I wasn't too sure what this was going to turn out to be.
If you are unfamiliar monkey sphere is based on the number of people the human (or monkey) brain can physical cope with and count them as genuine people, entities or whatever. This number may surprise you, but the limit is 150. So as we look through LinkedIn and Myspace etc and we see people with 200+ contacts - it isn't physically possible for them to truly know that person.
Well thats if the monkeys are to be believed!
Here is an interesting article about the monkey sphere

really ironic and so true.. 'monkeysphere'.. a total 'wake-up' name for the 'blinkers' we have made of our life.. with the right touch of levity that makes you wanna cry at the 'joke' we have made of life and humanity.. immunizing.. numbing.. a self that believes it truly cares
Zahir, excellent comment.
Summed up eloquently
